About
Hi, my name is Paul Downing and I am an amateur photographer from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. My main photography interest is Nature Photography.
It all started in 1983 when I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1 with a 50mm lens. At first my interest was only in taking snapshots, using print film. After reading a few photography books, I started to experiment and switched to slide film. As I expanded my knowledge and upgraded my equipment, I found my main photography interest to be Nature Photography (including landscapes, and close-ups).
I took a few basic photography courses, which included Introduction to Photography, Darkroom techniques and some Nature Photography workshops.
Over the last few years, I have developed an interest for digital photography and the possibilities it offers. I started expirementing with Photoshop and I think it’s a great tool, not to mention a lot safer and cleaner than the darkroom. Somewhat of a purist at first when it came to digital photography, I now look at it as another tool to help me make better pictures.
Silicon has now replaced Silver as my photography medium of choice!
Digital photography has brought me a renewed interest in photography. One thing is for sure; I’ve been shooting a lot more, which means more good shots overall.
Enjoy the selection of images I have on display on these pages and don’t hesitate to send me your comments.
